Frequently Asked Questions

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any additional queries.

How do I get started?

You are welcome to submit an online enquiry to book a trial lesson, or feel free to contact me directly. I’d be happy to chat and help you find a suitable time to begin.

What materials do you use to facilitate learning?

The choice of method books depends on each student's age, experience and musical goals.  For beginners, I currently use a variety of series from Alfred's, Bastien and John Thompson. Intermediate students often follow the AMEB syllabus or are welcome to explore pieces they are passionate about, within the appropriate skill level, such as their favourite songs or music from films!  Additional materials may be suggested to hone technical skills. â€‹â€‹

Do you prepare students for exams?

Absolutely! I’m happy to prepare students for AMEB exams, including:

  • Technical work;

  • Performance pieces;

  • General knowledge;

  • Sight reading; and

  • Aural skills.

What should we bring to our lessons?

Please bring along an exercise book and any assigned practice materials.

What is the duration of lessons?

For young beginners, I generally recommend 30 to 45 minute lessons.

For older or more experienced students, 45 minute to 1hour lessons are ideal to ensure capacity to build upon technical skills and general knowledge

How do you track student progress?

I regularly assess and provide feedback during lessons. I am also willing to prepare progress reports upon request and discuss goals with students and parents to ensure steady improvement.

How can I support my child's practice at home?

I provide written lesson notes and practice tips in each student's exercise book. If additional guidance is needed, I’m more than happy to provide further explanation or demonstration videos to support practice at home. Parents are more than welcome to attend lessons as well.

What are your rates?

My charges are currently $75 an hour for both trial and regular term lessons.

Do you offer any other services?

Yes, I also offer:

  • Music theory lessons; and

  • Accompaniment for exams, performances, or auditions.

Please reach out if you have specific requirements!

What if I can't attend my weekly timeslot?

If you’re unable to attend a lesson, please let me know as early as possible. I will do my best to reschedule a make-up lesson during the week but please understand this is subject to pre-existing timeslots.

If lessons are cancelled within 5 hours, it will be considered a paid lesson as the specific timeslot has been allocated to you.

If you are unable to attend on certain dates please let me know in advance so that I can adjust the term invoice accordingly.

What happens during school holidays?

Lessons during the holidays are offered with greater flexibility. There's no expectation to continue through the breaks, but if both the student and I are available, lessons can certainly continue as usual.

Please let me know in advance if you’ll be away during the holidays so we can plan accordingly.
